Overview of Suzuki Intruder M1800R

Intruder M1800R is Suzuki’s most powerful cruiser bike in India. The bike aims to take the cruising experience to the next level. Let’s get into the detailing of this bike.

Suzuki Intruder M1800R Exterior

Intruder M1800R is a low-stance cruiser bike which looks heavily chromed. Its round shaped headlight and streamlined headlight cover forms the face of this bike. The bike features orange colored side indicators around its headlight. The long chrome front forks make it look appealing with its stylish alloy wheels, short front fender and huge disc plates. On the top of its headlight, it features naked instrument console and rear view mirrors which are mounted on its chrome handlebar. Sideways, you will notice a stretched out fuel tank which ends just ahead of its rider seat.
The two massive chrome silencer pipes add masculinity to this bike and seem to be the best part of this bike. Just below its fuel tank lies an uncovered V-twin engine which makes it look classy. The bike looks extremely long when seen from either side. Suzuki offers this bike with a rear seat which features a stylish chrome bar just below it which supports the designing of its rear cowl. At the back, its rear cowl sports its four-layered LED tail lamp which gives it retro look with its chrome finished side indicators. Intruder has a remarkably fatty rear tyre which gives it an authentic cruiser look from the back.

Instrument Console of Suzuki Intruder M1800R

Suzuki has incorporated this bike with an interesting combined analogue-digital instrument console. It has an upraised analogue speedometer which is placed on its fuel tank which may not appeal to everyone as you might have to take your eyes off the road to give it a look while driving. A big orange colored LCD is placed on the regular position which has chrome surrounding. Its LCD houses digital tachometer, odometer, fuel-gauge and trip meter. The other LED indicators are placed just below this LCD.

Engine and Gearbox

This bike runs on a four-stroke, V-twin 1783cc engine. This liquid cooled, DOHC engine churns out a power output of 127 bhp at 6200 rpm. The torque production of this twin-cylinder is of 160 Nm which is accessible at 3200 rpm. Suzuki has opted for a five-speed manual gearbox for this bike which has one gear down and four gears up-shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

Suzuki has made sure that their heavy machine never falls short of power. The bike picks up really well and offers instant throttle response. To keep it on the faster side, Suzuki has used a five speed gearbox with short gear ratios. The 160Nm of heavy torque starts coming as early as 3200rpm which means very less gear shifts to maintain the momentum at slow speeds. However on highways, you sense the need of sixth gear. Despite being on the heavier side, it does 0-100km/hr in less than 7 seconds. The throttle response prompts you to rev this bike hard which is truly enjoy-full on highways. It can easily cruise at the speed of 150km/hr without any vibrations. The thumping sound from the dual silencer is extremely fascinating on highways. This sound makes it noticeable on city roads. This engine can’t be compared to other cruiser bikes like Yamaha V-MAX in terms of refinement and power delivery. At a certain level this two cylinder engine shows the signs of vibrations and harshness. However there is nothing to complain about its gearbox which offers effortless gear transitions.

Suzuki Intruder M1800R Mileage

It’s a heavy machine and as a result of which it has poor fuel economy. The bike may return you a mileage of around 8-10km/ltr.

Comfort while Driving Suzuki Intruder M1800R

That’s where it’s good at; comfort and relaxed riding. Its low positioned seat gives you complete control of Suzuki Intruder M1800R. The front set foot-pegs helps your legs to relax around its fuel tank. The handle bar is short and well in reach which is completely vibrations-free. One should not be complaining about its seat either; it’s well stuffed and can hold you back for long hours. Road visibility is also satisfactory but you may find its speedometer a bit disturbing.

Storage Space and Safety Features

Almost no storage space in Suzuki Intruder M1800R however it features broad tyres and bright headlight for your safety.

Suspension and Braking

The front suspension system of Suzuki Intruder M1800R consists of inverted, oil damped telescopic forks. The bike uses link type coil spring shock absorbers at the back. Looking at its heavy weight, Suzuki has incorporated this bike with powerful front twin disc brakes of 320mm andrear disc brake of 275mm.

Suzuki Intruder M1800R Ride and Handling

Get on to this bike and you will instantly notice its heavy weight. It weighs around 347kgs and that’s quite a problem while turning this machine at slow speeds. The handling is not that easy in city traffic but take it on highways and your every compliant vanishes. It becomes really light on highways and feels extremely confident. The suspension and braking system effectively hold this bike at high speeds. Its ground clearance of 130mm helps it to keep grounded on highways. To improve its cornering abilities, Suzuki has extended its wheelbase to 1710mm which makes it quite comfortable around corners. Its rear wide tyre also brings stability to this bike. The tyres stick firmly on road and improve its ride quality. Suzuki could have improved its low speed stability by cutting down its weight.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The front and rear tyre size of this bike is 130/70R18 and 240/40R18 respectively. This bike is only available in one variant and two shades which are black and blue.

Verdict

Suzuki Intruder M1800R is priced at INR 15 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). Let us tell you, this bike is even costlier than full size SUVs like Mahindra XUV 500. The bike is crafted only for those who can spend this much of money just to enjoy their weekends while cruising on highways. We can’t much talk about its worthiness as there is no price for social reputation and exclusivity.
