Datsun K2 Preview

Datsun is Nissan's low-cost car brand, and has been revived after a 30-year period. The first of the new models will be unveiled soon to slot below the Nissan Micracand will compete with the entry-level hatchbacks like the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai i10.
The new model has been codenamed 'K2' and it will be based on the same platform V-platform (Versatile) as that the Micra. In fact, it will take more than a few lessons from the development of the Micra and also share components and fitments at the Nissan’s Chennai facility.
Nissan has officially confirmed that the Datsun K2 will be unveiled in New Delhion June 15 - this will be a global unveiling of the next generation Datsun that will cater mainly to emerging markets. The K2 aims for an end-2013 or January 2014 launch with a petrol powerplant, which will be a detuned version of the Micra's 1.2-litre unit. Nissan will also look at offering a diesel variant within a year of the launch.
